Pit Bull Terrier - Phoenix~free - Large - Adult - Female - Dog
If you are interested in adopting this dog, please visit our website to fill out an application for consideration. Thank you! www.goingtothedogsrescue.org
Name: Phoenix DOB: 03/21/07 Phoenix is a fun, but mellow girl...her biggest activity is hopping up onto the couch for some snuggle time, so she will be an excellent dog for the less active family. Phoenix loves to perch on the top of the couch and look out the window, watch television with the kids, or just relax on the floor while everyone is busy around her. She is not super vocal, but will bark at window at passerby's with dogs, but will stop after asking her to. She walks well on a leash, and is 100% crate trained. She is also potty trained and will ask to go out in a few different ways. You cannot beat this girls already trained, and sweet personality to be able to enter into your home and make it complete!! Phoenix came to us with a skin infection that had been untreated for over 4 months. Her owners could not afford her care so we stepped in to help her out. It is going to take a little bit of time for her hair to grow in and fully heal, but we have already noticed a difference in a weeks time. Her inflammation went down and her ear infection looks much better! She has an allergy to dog food that is made up of corn/wheat and does excellent on a variety of foods that are corn free/ wheat free. Phoenix has been observed to be good with 1 smaller dog; however she is selective with larger dogs so she would do best in a home with small dogs or no other dogs. She is also fine with cats and shows little interest in them. Her adoption fee is $100 to cover her medical care received.
Adoption Procedures:
We only consider your home for adoption after we receive an application. Once this is complete we then move on in the process to adopting your new best friend. Once we receive an application we review it to see if the particular dog(s) might be a good fit for your home/lifestyle and that you meet the required needs of the dog. Once this is done we proceed to check veterinary references. This is to ensure that pets you have or have had in the past were cared for, altered, and up to date with necessary medical care. Once you have been through this initial screening we then set up a home visit to ensure that the home is a safe home with little concern about their personality matching yours. We also want to ensure that the home is set up for the same energy levels or medical needs they may or may not have (dog that can't climb stairs, or not enough room to walk, etc.) These steps are important to ensuring that we are finding the proper home for the dog to be FURever!
A few requirements of adoption are:
*We currently do not adopt out of state. *We do not adopt to homes with smoking indoors due to health concerns for the pets *Our 'bully' breed adoptions require you to be a homeowner, have a fully fenced yard (not invisible fencing) unless you have acreage, and you are required to attend an obedience training class. This is due to the high rate of returns in dogs that are not properly exercised or trained and make it difficult to re-home. *We are a registered not for profit and do not earn a salary, our adoption fees are recycled to help rescue our future dogs. We are always looking for assistance on our team as well as donations to help run our rescue smoothly.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. I applied to adopt a pitbull but we have an invisible fence not a solid fencing, can we still adopt?
-unfortunately invisible fencing is not full proof fencing and does not protect your own dogs from other loose dogs entering your property. Many dogs get out of invisible fencing and then are too afraid to return back to the yard, and there are just too many concerns with the bully breed to put them at risk.
2. Do you negotiate on your adoption fees? If I want to take the dog to my own vet for spay/neuter can I get a discount on adoption fees?
-Unfortunately 80% or more of our dogs cost hundreds mor
